CBD or cannabidiol is a cannabinoid found in cannabis plants, both hemp and marijuana. A cannabinoid is a compound within cannabis that interacts with the body's natural endocannabinoid system to produce certain effects and potentially provide relief from different medical ailments. So far there have been approximately 80 different cannabinoids found within cannabis plants. Scientists and researchers alike suggest that there are many others waiting to be discovered as well.
A cannabinoid most individuals are familiar with is THC. THC or Delta 9- Tetrahydrocannabinol is the cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant that produces a buzz or the high that is associated with marijuana. Hemp, unlike marijuana, produces very low traces of tetrahydrocannabinol. However, CBD is much more abundant in many strains of hemp. CBD, unlike THC, provides no psychoactive effect.
